Singapore Sling @ Long Bar, Raffles Hotel Singapore
Last
month my job gave me a great opportunity to visit Singapore and when I
was in Singapore how can I resist myself from not visiting the
historical Long Bar at The Raffles Hotel and drink a Classical Singapore
Sling. My
visit was worth a million. The time I entered Raffles hotel I got that
feeling of reaching a place with a lot of heritage and history.
After
making my way through stairway, I saw some visual pointers to the
Long bar mentioning,” Long bar 45 steps ahead”. And I started
counting every step I took towards the legendary long bar, exactly
after taking 45 steps I was standing at the door of the bar which has
created 'The Singapore sling'.
As done by every bartender, I went ahead and made myself comfortable at
the bar. One strange that got my attention was the debris all around the venue which I later realised were
peanut coats. I recollected reading this somewhere that when you are
in The Long bar you are served with peanuts as bar snacks and coats for
which have to be dumped on floor as a ritual which has been followed for ages. I did the same for all the peanut served to me :-)
Cocktails
are normally premixed but on our request bartender made a fresh one
for us. It was served in a specially crafted Singapore Sling glass also called as Poco
Grande glass with
pineapple and maraschino cherry as the garnish.

Cocktail taste was brilliant & out of the world, but other thing that was served to me with the drink was a story to tell to many about my first experience of visiting a bar where a Classical cocktail was created. Cheers to Singapore Sling......
